Rewilding
Realizing that the majority of the countryside in the highlands have been under predominantly human control for the past 200 years in one way or the other, one also realizes how this control has had an effect on the natural cycle or perhaps natural balance of nature.
A statement which is not to be a judgement on whether this control has been positive or negative. I can just state that our goal for Braemore and the surroundings is to aim for a more ecological functional state where the land again reaches a point with larger possible native biodiversity so that nature again becomes more sustainable and therefore better become capable of taking care of itself.
We are therefore at Braemore committed to establishing new forests where sensible, restoring peatland where degraded. We also dream of reintroduction of key species that used to roam in the highlands with the overall aim of helping nature to a more native and more rich biodiversity than what was left us from immediately previous generations.
Our public authorities speak of Biodiversity Net Gain. We would like to aim for a closer to balanced nature as when the at least the last larger predators where roaming in Scotland. We understand that in order to achieve our goals there are tools we at present do not have.
